Dr. Linn MurphreeThis past Saturday, Stephen Haddad and the team at Ocular Prosthetics, Inc. was graciously invited to participate in the event “Afternoon in the Park with Dr. Linn Murphree”.  This event was a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Murphree as an ocular oncologist at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  Amongst a crowd of over 500 patients, families, and friends, Dr. Murphree spoke about about the latest developments in retinoblastoma diagnosis, treatment, and research.  The rock star of the event, Dr. Murphree was greeted by current and former patients spanning a three decade career.

This informal gathering featured games, crafts, and face painting for the children.  As well as catered food and drinks for the entire family.  During the brief program, featured patients and families were able to share their unique experience with retinoblastoma and Dr. Murphree.  These heart-warming stories of survival were just a few of the amazing recollections of a triumph over disease, and a doctors unwavering dedication.

The event was a huge success, bringing together families across the Southern California region to honor their doctor and stand together against childhood eye cancer.  Stephen Haddad was honored to be included in the event as both a colleague and friend of Dr. Murphree.  Mr. Haddad was happy to see so many familiar faces amongst the patients and families.  To everyone that attended, thank you for coming, your presence was a huge part of this celebration.

This event was made possible by contributions from Retinoblastoma International, The Vision Center of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and The Institute for Families (IFF).  A special thanks to Elva Tamashiro of the IFF and Marissa Gonzales of Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund for their major role in planning and running this event.
